Imaging studies, including X-ray or CT scan is used to detect abnormalities in the body and a biopsy is usually performed to confirm that cancer is clearly involved in mesothelioma. A biopsy is a minor surgical procedure that is fluid or tissue taken from the peritoneum.

After the biopsy, the tissue fluid and tested in a laboratory in the presence of mesothelioma cells. If the biopsy shows again that the peritoneal mesothelioma in a patient, the doctor has in common with patients, a detailed treatment plan.
